Post 26: two colleagues' posts about what they have learned

Ashley learned "The most important thing that I've learned is that it is always a good idea to get a second or even a third opinion on your paper, where they critique it for you. Since nobody is perfect there will always be room for improvement and good advice will help you get a better grade on a paper. I think that by doing this you can also learn from your mistakes and the next time you have a paper to write you won't make the same mistake twice. When I took AP Literature in high school, my teacher sometimes made us read others' paper and critique it, but I never understood the importance of it and why she couldn't do it. I now understand that your teacher/professor isn't suppose to tell you everything and that you should always be able to go to a colleague and get their opinion on something."

Javorous learned "The most important thing I've learned in this class are DEADLINES. Although this wasn't a topic we discussed, but it was something that I had to pay attention to."

Post 25: Most important thing I've learned in this class

The most important thing I've learned in this class about our readings is that the answers wont just be there in your face, you have to think and analyze everything. You have to look for metaphors, symbols and many other things to help you under the story better and to actually understand what it's about other than the title.

Post 23: Role of women in modern family life

The role of women in modern family life is more on being independent. They don't wait until someone or their husband tells them what to do or how to things, they go out and do it on their own. Like earning their own more to help out around the house and taking care of their kids instead of  the husband doing all of the work.

Post 22: Plot of my favorite movie

My favorite movie is Remember the Titans and the plot of this movie when the head coach of the Titans was replace with an new African American coach, Tensions arise when players of different races are forced together on the same football team. Many of these tensions are eased during the two-week training camp in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. When players returned to Alexandria the players found the city in turmoil due to the forced desegregation of the high school. But as the season progresses the team's success caused the community to accept the changes. After the Titans' perfect season, the team and the city were closer than ever before.

Post 21: the setting of your favorite TV show and what the setting means for the show.

The setting of Pretty Little Liars is in Rosewood, Pennsylvania where all of the girls live and Rosewood High, where they all go to school at. The setting shows where they all grow up at and where most of the main events happen through out the series.

Post 20: that develops a metaphor about what you think about poetry.

Metaphors in poetry makes ideas more understandable and easy to read. It also can let you get your point around in a unique way!

Post 19: Metaphor in a song lyric

Life is  A Highway by Rascal Flatts
"Life is a highway
I wanna ride it all night long
If you're going my way
I wanna drive it all night long"
"Life is like a Highway" is a metaphor that compares life and highway. Life, like a highway, is a long road with twists and turns, stop signs, and etc. but it doesn't remain the same forever.

Post 18: Images two colleagues' discussed in their post

Alexus Boles stated "An image is language that addresses the senses." Images can mean so many different things. I believe it really depends on the viewer of the image, because each individual person is different and we interpret things differently."
I don't see any difference with our views

Jasmine Brown stated that "In the song Waterfalls by TLC a reader might think this song is actually about chasing waterfalls just from the title while it is really about a guy who has HIV and AIDS.
“One day he goes and takes a glimpse in the mirror
But he doesn’t recognise his own face
His health is fading and he doesn’t know why
Three letters took him to his final resting place.”
I agree with her post

Post 17: Why images can mean so many different things.

Images can mean so many things to different  people, not everybody thinks the same or has the same views as each other. Still I Rise by Maya Angelou is my favorite poem. I think its about knowing whatever happens, happens but you cant let it bring you down."Just like the moons and like suns-- still I rise" which I think shes's saying just like the moon and the sun rises everyday no matter what so can she, no matter what & to be strong.

Post 14: Two colleagues' favorite poems or lyrics

Marlons favorite song lyric.
Kevin Gates said " My daily conversation, it consist of hustle grinding from the bottom sick and tired of struggle shining don't want pop it off it's on the muscle police is harassing don't want see us come up" I think this mean never stop grinding even if the feds watching you.

Tiffany's favorite song lyric
My favorite song right now is Hello by Adele. In the song she says"Hello, can you hear me" to me she is crying out to her old lover. Theme of the song discuss themes of nostalgia and regret. She shows how she let someone go who she really loved. Nostalgia is going back to the old in which she wanted her old flame back . I can really relate to her and this song on a deep level.

Post 13: Favorite song lyric or poem

My favorite poem is Still I Rise by Maya Angelou. This poem is basically addressed to white oppressors of black people. It is also about courage and strength and everybody joining together with one voice to support one another.

"You may shoot me with your words
You may cut me with your eyes
You may kill me with your hatefulness
But still, like air, I'll rise.k"

Post 10. What two of my colleagues symbols'

 Jahai Canty symbols
Something that I wear or carry is my moneybag chain around my neck. My favorite piece in the game of monopoly is the moneybag. The moneybag chain I wear is to symbolizes me grinding everyday to get to the riches. To keep stacking my funds and never folding. The moneybag chain I wear is to symbolize every time I make investments with money. I should take the course with less opportunity costs and financial loses. http://eng1100canty12.blogspot.com/

Jaylen Popes' symbol
Something that I carry almost everyday is my Calvin Klein hand bag on occasions. Calvin Klein is a fashion company that not only creates handbags they also make clothes, book bags, underwear, shoes and accessories. The word "Calvin Klein" symbolizes the founder who name is Calvin Klein. The "CK" is their logo that the company advertise which make the consumer familiar with the company and the product.

POST 9: Something I often wear and what it symbolizes

For about the months I'd sometimes always wear a U.S Army hat that my boyfriend gave to me before I left for school and before he left for basic training. Now I have many army bears and jackets from him to have something to remember when he's gone and now will be in Korea for two years.

Response to 2 collegue view of settings

Monica thinks the setting of "Soldiers Home" is in Kansas in the summer of 1919 which I agree on. "The setting in Hemingway's "Soldier's Home", is in Oklahoma. It takes place in the summer of 1919. in Krebs's home, who was returned home from France and Germany from fighting in WWI. he spends time in the house a lot. Krebs loves to read books at the local library . The rest of the story explains how Krebs just wants to relax during WWI."  http://monicias.blogspot.com/

Jasmine thinking the setting of "Soldiers Home" is in Kansas as well.

The setting of Hemingway's story " Soldiers Home" is in Oklahoma at Kreb's home. This takes place in the year 1920 during the summer. This is after World War 1 has ended when the people in the war return home from fighting. " Kreb's returned tot his home town in Oklahoma the greeting of hereos was over" pg. 187 paragraph 2 http://english1101brown.blogspot.com/

The setting of Packers story

The story takes place in Tokyo where Dina moves to from Baltimore in hope of making a lot of money. Tokyo is the setting and also the apartment where she lives with other people.

What two of my colleagues learned about their story or poem

"The story I read and learned about is called "Three Girls" the author is Joyce Carol Oates. There were two  girls who loved books and were poets and worked in a strand. One girl spotted  an unknown visitor that she wasn't aware of, so she went and got the other girl  to go sneak and find out who it was and when they both  found out who she was they were both very shocked it was Marilyn Monroe by herself alone. Marilyn purchased about five or six books and after that the girls couldn't resist they had to follow Marilyn Monroe"http://teamnewblog.blogspot.com/

" What I've learned From a Secret Sorrow? I have learned from the book is to love yourself and to be true to yourself. In the story there was a young lover named Faye. She had a secret that she has been keeping from her boyfriend Kai. Kai really loved her and he wanted her to marry him but Faye kept on saying no because she was scared to tell him that she was not able to have children. She felt as if she told him he would not except her and he would change his mind about marrying her. But it turned out to be the Kai didn't really mind that she could not have kids he just wants to be with her forever" http://enlish1102phillips.blogspot.com/

What I learned about my poem

Georgia wanted to place everyone in the same situation as her. And to feel equal with everybody as one.

How the authors life affects her poem

Georgia Douglas Johnson was born to an interracial family. An African American grandfather and a Native American grandmother. She was one of the major women writers to play a good role in the Harlem Renaissance. She also hosted meetings at her house know as The Saturday Night Club to discuss, debate and and make plans on projects affecting the American blacks. Which in Share My World, she wants to give people a feel to live like her as a black women or just making everybody feel as if we're all one, and the same. Skin color doesn't matter.

Choice for Doc1

My choice for Doc1 is Share My World by Georgia Douglas Johnson. I chose this because it seems like she wants to piece the world back together and make it one again. A happy and better place for her. And not focus on the negatives anymore. A world filled with joy.

My Favorite Movie

My favorite movie is The Boy in the Striped Pajamas. This movie is so amazing and sad at the same time. Its about a Jewish boy named Shmuel and another boy of hos aged named Bruno who builds a friendship through the barbed-wired fence that separates the concentration camp from Bruno's home. But the boys have no idea what's really going on in the world at that time.
